wine fridge: what size and storage capacity should you choose?
Storage capacity, technical and aesthetic features… Finding the wine fridge that’s right for you can be quite a challenge! To help you choose the one that will best suit your everyday needs, here are the questions to ask yourself before purchasing your future wine fridge.
What will I use my wine fridge for?
There are several types to choose from:
The storage wine fridge
It allows you to preserve the wines you love in optimum conditions at a single temperature. Its dimensions, whether small or large, and its shelves make wine storage easy.
Multi-zone wine fridge
Versatile and user-friendly, it combines the best of storage and practicality. You can both store your bottles and be sure they are always ready for tasting. To fulfill these differing functions, the multi-zone wine fridge features three independent temperature zones:
-
a zone between 5 and 10°C (41 and 50°F) for white and rosé wines;
-
a zone between 9 and 14°C (48 and 58°F) for storing all wines;
-
a zone between 15 and 20°C (59°C and 69°C) to chamber red wines.
How many bottles am I going to store?
The capacity of a wine fridge refers to the number of bottles it can store. To choose the right dimensions, assess the size of your current collection and that of your future collection. Do you need a small, medium or high-capacity wine fridge?
Ideal for tighter spaces, the small wine fridge can hold up to 50 bottles. With its compact dimensions, it fits easily into the corner of a living room or under a kitchen countertop.
A large wine fridge can store several hundred bottles. This generally tends to be a multi-zone wine fridge. If you have a large assortment of wine and champagne bottles to store, this is an excellent choice.
To plan your future purchases, you should allow for a 30% increase in capacity on your current number of bottles. For optimum performance without unnecessary electricity consumption, we recommend filling your wine fridge to at least 75% of its capacity.
Please note: the maximum capacity of a wine fridge is given as a guide only. It will vary depending on the shape and diameter of the bottles, and the way in which they are arranged. The reference index is that of a standard 75cl Bordeaux bottle. If your bottles are larger, you will need more capacity.
Where should I install my wine fridge?
The last important factor in choosing the right dimensions for your wine fridge is its future location! Do you have limited space? Are you planning to install it in a fitted kitchen or in the corner of a living room? Size depends above all on the space available in your home.
If you are looking to store a small number of bottles (around 30, for example) and keep them within easy reach, a small wine fridge is an ideal choice. It blends in perfectly with your interior without detracting from it, and adding a touch of aesthetic appeal and design.
If you’d like to invest in a larger wine fridge and store a greater number of bottles, you’ll need a larger space in a cellar or garage, or in a dining room or living room. So why not opt for a wine fridge from the Goguette range? Thanks to its attractive color palette, Goguette wine fridges will blend seamlessly into any living space, large or small!
